My class is not designed to fail a student. I understand that every student is different and that every student has their strengths and weaknesses. That is why I give my assignments very high grades. If a student is struggling on passing a test and they have one bad test grade it does not mean they will fail my class. To pass my class I require effort. My class moto last year was, “It’s not about Perfect it’s about effort.” I need to see your children trying their best. This means turning in all assignments on time, and completed. If a student does this and still makes a grade that is not good enough, I am not below working with them to increase their grades, but assignments that are not turned in will stay a 0 in the grade book, and they will not be allowed to make it up. Going off of that I do not assign much Homework in my class. The only homework your students will have will be reading assignments that will be handed out in class. Your students are busy enough as is, so I do not believe in much homework. We have many tests throughout the year that the students will be given notice weeks in advance by an announcement in class and through Remind. They will be given a study guide three days before the test. We will also be doing many projects. These include internet scavenger hunts to even doing reenactments in class. I really try to make this class as fun as possible and hope your students enjoy every minute of it.

Pre AP World History

Pre AP World History

This class is a more vigorous version of the World History class above. PAP stand for Pre Advanced Placement course. An Advanced Placement course is essentially a college class. This means your students have chosen the path to help prepare them for college in the future. This class will have reading assignments every night that will require around 30 minutes of their evening. This is to help increase their reading level to get them to a college level. Their assignments will be a mixture of text book chapters and Primary articles. We will be reflecting their reading almost every day to analyze how it relates to the topic. As well this class is about 50% Lecture and 50% discussion. This means that your students will have to be able to discuss their topics in class for participation. Being able to create their own opinions about a subject in history greatly increases their critical thinking skills that will benefit them in life. Another skill that will be practiced in this course is writing. Writing like an Historian is vastly different than the essay they will be writing in English class. To write these essays your students will become a private detective and cipher pieces of history to show what actually happened in their own opinions. This skill is essential in life when trying to understand why ISIS does the awful things they do. Or other current events.

Last, but not least every student in PAP World History must complete a research project. We will start this research in the beginning of November and it will not be due until April. Exact dates will come when we start the project. This project is simple as long as your students do not procrastinate. I repeat DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO PROCRASTINATE. I allow them plenty of time in class to work on this project, but they will also need time outside of class to work as well. I will include a whole packet describing this project in November.
